Codfish (or just cod) is the common name for several species of fish classified in several genera. However, we can find what we call the "original" or "true" one - the Gadus Morhua - in the Atlantic Ocean. It is one of the about 60 species in the same migratory fish family.
Despite not being a fish from the Portuguese coast, since the 15th-16th century it has become a widely consumed fish in Portugal, not only due to its strong conservation, but also to its low price.
